Turn cooking mode on

Step 1

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, sift together the self-raising flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

Step 3

Add in the butter and gently rub it into the flour with your fingertips, continuing until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs.

Step 4

Stir in the caster sugar.

Step 5

Mix the buttermilk with the vanilla extract and pour it into the dry ingredients, slowly mixing and gently bringing everything together into a soft dough without overworking it.

Step 6

On a floured surface, roll or press the dough to about 3-4 cm thick and cut into rounds with a 5 cm cutter or glass.

Step 7

Place the scones directly into your air fryer crisper tray or on baking parchment in your air fryer basket, leaving space between each one, and brush the tops lightly with buttermilk.

Step 8

Air fry for 8–10 minutes, until the scones are golden and risen.

Step 9

Serve warm, split open, and topped with jam and clotted cream for the perfect treat.
